Back to School

Remember the 80's? Good, it's back in all of it's horrific glory and now you get to send little Johnny back to School in the latest take on fashion disaster reinvented by modern retailers, some of whom have been around since the material girl age.
In keeping with trends you'll see technicolour brights, graphic tees and prints, plaids (synonymous with BTS) and argyles likely on the season's most versatile accessory, the cardigan which will temporarily replace the hoodie as the staple du jour. With the 40th anniversary of Woodstock gone past you will also see the Haute Hippie look with a lot of distressed denim which will leave you wondering, 'why am I paying so much for already ripped jeans?' Solve that problem and head to Value Village for the supreme authority on authentic hippie chic and give your wallet a break. Add lots of rock and roll accents in the form of antiqued chains and pendants and Janie is good to go. Try the Avery Chains Necklace and Crest Pendant on a 30" Silver Chain to achieve this.
Girls and boys will share the trend this year with the Boyfriend look. From jeans to rolled up blazers and menswear vests paired with the LWT, Little White Tank (please stop calling it a beater) kids can nail the Gossip Girl preppy chic look. The Sweet Orange Clothing company in Valley Fair Mall for teens and Monkey Business for young children have all of these essentials at reasonable prices if you're interested in supporting your small local businesses therefore putting money back into your community. Winners is also a great stop if you want designer labels at reasonable prices and Joe Fresh at Superstore for trend on a dime.
Spend less money by evaluating your child's closet, and yours for that matter. Select new items that coordinate with the key pieces in your existing closet. Save time by pre-shopping and selecting stores that match your lifestyle, taste, and budget. Bring clothing to your home as required (check the return policy first) to see if it coordinates with your wardrobe so you have what you need with the fewest possible pieces.

Remember to have fun and stay on course when shopping with the kids. It's easy to give in when you're being overpowered by whining. Get yourself a nice hot latte from Starbucks, take a deep breath, and if you've followed the rules for BTS preparedness you'll be fine.

Style for a Steal? Book your trunk show today!

Get out your calender for a fabulous girls night! This isn't your average jewellery show either.

Layer me Up Baby

I just had Cartney over to my house to give me some lessons in layering jewellery. Cartney has the most eclectic style and pulls it off with incredible ease. Every time I see her I love how cohesive her look is so I invited her over to play with the new Stella & Dot fall line and create some new looks. Here are the results.

Rock 'n Roll Audrey

The chic-ster way of draping pearls these days is by mismatching them every which way you can. The fall collection from Stella & Dot has amazing pieces that can take you from day to night, but here is where you learn to meld them together to create your very own look.

Pearls are back with a vengeance in the most modern and hard-edged way ala Keira Knightly in Pirates of the Carribean. It will add instant drama to your neckline and make people fall in love at hello. You can interpret this look for yourself, don’t be afraid to DIY at home. Take inspiration from Stella & Dot and layer pearls with other treasures in your jewelry box—the more tangled, the better! This trend is not intended to be delicate or fancy...the idea is to be eye-catching by day with a white shirt and tuxedo jacket, and jaw-dropping by night with your little black dress. Imperfect perfection!

Try the Sofia Pearl Bib Necklace and Avery Necklace together to create a good girl gone rock 'n roll feel. Two statement pieces re-invented.

Find them both at www.stelladot.com/shop or call me Stacy Williams at 778-836-0724 to order.

Jewellery to Suit Any Style

It’s the most personal accessory you’ll put on — and sometimes the most expensive — so invest wisely and your fabulous jewels will last a lifetime. You’ll wear them with everything, from your everyday jeans to your cocktail dress, so you gotta love what you put on. Plus, jewelry is the one accessory where you can really show your personality. Big diamond hoops scream glamour, and those wooden beads show that you are casual and laidback. Take a look below to find your own jewelry personality.

Free Spirit

Your Motto: Let inner-self shine through with fun, funky accessories.

• Necklaces with funky beads and charms (worn several at a time) is just right for you

• Stacks of bangles and cuffs may be impractical, but a free spirit thinks it’s funky and cool and you don’t let it stand in the way of looking good

• Ethnic-inspired jewelry and vibrant colors match your big-style personality

• Brightly colored watches and bangles are perfect for you

Your Celeb Style Match: Keira Knightley, Drew Barrymore

Your Perfect Pieces from Stella & Dot: Jardin Necklace, Papillon Necklace, Deco Bangle, Goddess Necklace, Charlize Wood Necklace, Portico Bangle, Jardin Ring, Mocha Disk

Your Celeb Style Match: Mandy Moore, Natalie Portman

Your Perfect Pieces from Stella & Dot: Perfect Faceted Earrings, Bloom Flower Ring, Heirloom Earrings, Rosary Necklace, Tatum Pearl Necklace, Marianne Earrings

Glamour & Glitz

Your Motto: Pile it on! A girl can’t have enough sparkle.

• Your drawn toward anything blingy and sparkly, like dazzling bangles and layers of jewels

• Oversize anything is what you love — earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces

Ecclectic and Original

Your Motto: Who cares what others think? Stand out in original, one-of-a-kind accessories.

• Anything goes — from pins to headbands to big cuff bracelets — when it’s worn with a smile

Paris Hilton Frolicks in Stella & Dot Jewellery

Her she is, the Hilton Heiress frolicking on the beach with some dude. (newest boyfriend???) Well she's posing more so than frolicking but I'm sure she enjoyed herself. One thing is for sure however, and that is the Charlize Bib Necklace she is wearing in the ocean is a Stella & Dot beauty.

Paris first got a taste of Stella & Dot's fabulous jewellery at the Golden Globe's gift lounge in January, where she met Stella & Dot’s founder and president, Jessica Herrin, and fell in love with the Charlize Bib Necklace, as shown in both photos.

Bachelorette Jillian to wear Stella & Dot Jewellery

The network ABC has announced that former The Bachelor bachelorette Jill Harris will serve as the star of a still-unfilmed new The Bachelorette edition that will premiere on May 18.

A word or two of advice

~It doesn't have to match, it just has to make sense

~Whether you're going to a birthday party, out for dinner, or a kids play date, take 5 extra minutes for yourself to pull it all together. I'm not talking about full hair, make up, and sequins but rather a bit of effort to look like you didn't just crawl out of bed. Invest in your image whatever you want that to be and learn to feel good about yourself.

~Accessories are the antidote to the blahs. When was the last time you slipped on a pair of high heels and didn't feel like a super vixen?

Forget Lululemon

Try on Stella McCartney for size! Stella has been styling for Adidas for a few years now and I am a devotee! But if you want Style for a Steal, you should go to your neighbourhood Superstore and check out the Joe label. They have a cute little tennis dress in stock right now for under $30 and it is very similar to Stella's show on the left.
Click here to view her spring line up:

Heidi Klum made a style statement on the red carpet with her stack of mixed bangles. You too can stand out with these style stunners – wear them stacked, mixed or alone. Any and all will add a fabulous touch to your outfit.

The red carpet was bursting with beautiful bold accents like Angelina Jolie’s show stopper emerald green earrings.
This Spring the trend is to incorporate bold new colors, especially emerald green, into your wardrobe with one vivid item, like the Perfect Faceted Earrings or the Isabella Spaced Wreath necklace. Pair any of these pieces with an understated black gown for your own Oscar style or with the simple jeans and t-shirt for a casual, everyday glam look. And the best thing – these pieces are much easier on your wallet!

In Love with My Jason Gogo Paintings

Nothing new here but yesterday I was lounging in my living room and staring at one of my favourite paintings by a fantastic artist named Jason Gogo. My other favourite is also a Gogo! ;) His work is highly textured and abstract multi-colour based form of painting. Gorgeous works of art that literally stop you in your tracks! The pictures just don't do the work any justice but you get the idea.
"Organic Expressionism is an original style developed by Jason Gogo. This style is composed of extreme textures and multiple layers of colors that represent random organic material. Gogo draws on natural substances including bark, geods and ancient fossils as well as manufacturer’s recycled paints, which are applied to his medium of oil paint. Organic materials such as ground antler, real gold and powdered abalone create these extreme textures and veins of natural mineral colors. Colors are applied in layers similar to geological formations that sensor natural hues in layers of time. Anomalies of perfection imitate catastrophic changes in geological material. In nature there is no bias in the application of color, which is the influence of the color palette on these works of art. Most abstract art dissipates as the viewer gets closer, revealing simple singular tones of color. In Gogo's organic expressionism, the perceived colors become complex patterns and grids of many colors. For the viewer, Gogo's work is endless in forms and color.
Jason’s work is not abstracting nature but rather employing the conditions of universal occurances such as erosive and tectonic movement to create something truly organic. Believing the dichotomy of paradox is present in all things, Gogo chooses to enable the application for the medium without coercion. In order to balance this correctly, he then adds points of coercion within the art piece. As opposed to layering paint to a pre-conceived idea, Gogo starts with the least dense and ends with the most dense material on his canvas. In the time he is not present, the layers naturally move through each other as the lightest part rises to the top of the most dense.Gogo’s art is about creating a tether between the viewers conscious and his subconscious. The viewer begins to destructuralize his pre-conceptions and starts to see things within the art, thus creating the content. As time progresses, and this thinking expands, the large amount of information within the painting becomes limitless to the viewer. As well, when the color and lighting in its environment shifts, so does the painting’s content."

Another Make Up Post

For those of you who are make up obsessed, you will be jumping up and down right now with the news that Sephora is making it's debut in Vancouver.

There is a Sephora store opening at Pacific Centre in Vancouver, BC on 7/10/2009!
It is not an exclusive event, so no hassle at the door, no lines to stand in. To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on this store opening, make sure that you are signed up for our Sephora.com email blasts.

Besides getting the latest beauty news and trends, the most up-to-date detailed information for the store opening (including date, time, and any special promotions or happenings) will be sent to you about 4 days prior. There are also 2 other locations opening at Burnaby Metrotown and Coquitlam Towne Centre, also in the summer of 2009.

A welcomed addition to the Lower Mainland for sure! Sephora brings major brand awareness to the community with unbiased sales reps and excellent customer service being a top priority. It is for a new generation of shoppers who grew up at the Lancome counter at the Bay!

Visit http://www.sephora.com/canada to begin product lusting. I am a huge fan of their combination sets, makeup brushes, and exclusives. OH! I can't believe I didn't list Smashbox Photo Finish Primers in my favourties list. Please forgive me and go buy it, trust.

How to build your Jewellery Wardrobe

From the most personal keepsakes to the trendiest baubles and beads, our jewellery says a lot about us-and completes a great many looks. Want to build your collection? Check out the advice below.

1. Avoid being matchy-matchy. Of course you want your pieces to compliment each other and be of the same feel and leel of formality, but combining is now more of a personal statement and less about following the law of similars.
2. Make a single statement. In general the more sparkle in your clothes, the less you need in your jewellery. One outsize piece is often enough, and you should always watch the proximity of big or bold pieces. Chandeliers and a cuff bracelet can work together, but chandeliers with a chunky necklace are too much, too close.
3. Consider the shape of your face. If your face is round, then round earrings (especially large ones that sit on the lobe) will only make cheeks look more full. Instead, choose a dangling or drop earring. Square faces look best with small, oval or oblong earrings; oval faces wear just about any earring.
4. Make your necklace work for your neck. Long styles (chains, lariats, etc.) flatter those with short necks, broad shoulders or short torsos, whereas chokers are best reserved for longer necks.
5. Find a ring that flatters your fingers. The shape of a stone will determine how it looks on your hand. If you're conscious of your fingers being stubby, marquis shapes or ovals the illusion of length and slenderness.

Treat Yourself to Something Sweet

Indeed! Treat yourself to something in Recession-Ville. It doesn't have to be extravagent like a pair of Christian Louboutins but if it is, WOW, I'm jealous. Below is a list of my must have items.

1. Secret Clinical Strength deodorant. I know it's a weird item to have at the top of the list but really, how many times have you kept your arms below your waist because you were afraid of the wet circle?

2. Diorshow Black Mascara. Diorshow Mascara is Dior's original, must-have mascara that delivers ultra-glam, catwalk-length lashes. Makeup artists all over the world use this product to create the longest, thickest, curviest lashes ever.

3. The Happy Flower necklace from Stella & Dot found at www.stelladot.com/shop. Genuine Mother of Pearl, resin and hand painted flowers. Perfect in the day with a pair of jeans and a white James Pearse tee or a cute mini shift dress! Gorgeous!

4. Pin up Photography held at Beautilicious Beauty Emporium. Gone are the days of the un-original stagette and boring girls night outs. Side effects may include increased self esteem, ridiculous amounts of fun, and 3 gorgeous photos! (Re-touching included if you please) Make an appointment at http://www.beautilicious.ca/

5. The L.A.M.B. Sequin Circle Cardigan. Intricate detailing and a classic silhouette conspire to make this the best cardigan we've ever worn.Cardigan sweater with beading and sequin detail throughout. Everything Gwen Stefani touches turns to gold. I'm looking forward to the No Doubt upcoming tour for not only the music but the costumes!!
6. The Blossom Ring from Stella & Dot found at www.stelladot.com/shop. Irresistable has a new meaning with this perfect spring blossom. Hand-painted enamel with adjustable gold plate band, this ring fits all who are looking to add a touch of cheer to any outfit. 385 of these were sold across North America last week alone!!! Come to think of it...this will look fantastic with the L.A.M.B. cardi! Well now I must have both.
